Tanzania Health Promotion Support (THPS) proudly endorses Prof. Mohamed Janabi for the position of WHO Africa Regional Director.
Our organization has had first-hand experience with Prof. Janabi’s outstanding leadership since he became Chairman of our Board of Directors in 2022. Under his chairmanship, THPS evolved to become a leading indigenous public health organization, making remarkable strides in addressing priority public health challenges; HIV, tuberculosis, non-communicable diseases, reproductive and child health, outbreak response and infection prevention & control, to name a few.
Prof. Janabi’s visionary leadership fosters innovative solutions to prevailing healthcare challenges, enabling strong multi-sectoral collaboration for impactful public health interventions that improve health outcomes across the country. Through his guidance, THPS successfully implemented high-impact programs, including:
- Expanding access to comprehensive HIV and TB care by strengthening service delivery and ensuring quality treatment for all.
- Enhancing maternal and child health by spearheading initiatives to prevent mother-to-child HIV transmission and advancing person-centered healthcare approaches.
- Championing the integration of NCD prevention and management within communicable disease services, ensuring a holistic approach to patient care.
- Strengthening health systems through capacity-building programs that empower healthcare workers, improve service delivery, and promote long-term sustainability.
With a deep understanding of public health priorities, Prof. Janabi has demonstrated unwavering dedication to strengthening health systems for equitable and universal healthcare access. He is an avid advocate of healthy lifestyles in everyday African contexts, the most cost-effective and sustainable strategy to combat a multitude of ailments that are increasingly causing morbidity and mortality across the continent. Coupled with his ability to drive impactful policies and programs, he is the ideal candidate to lead WHO Africa at this critical time in addressing the continent’s evolving health challenges.
