Strengthening Public Health Leadership Through THPS–MUHAS Partnership

Tanzania Health Promotion Support (THPS) is proud to mark a significant milestone in its commitment to building a strong and sustainable public health workforce. For the very first time, THPS is hosting residents undergoing their Master’s degree courses from Muhimbili University of Health and Allied Sciences (MUHAS) under two critical training tracks: the Field Epidemiology and Laboratory Training Program (FELTP) and Implementation Science.

This partnership represents a strategic step toward bridging academic learning with real-world public health practice. During their placement, the residents will work closely with THPS technical teams, gaining hands-on experience within functioning health systems.

As part of their practical learning, they will engage in site visits, program reviews, stakeholders’ engagement, data analysis and scientific products development for dissemination, disease surveillance, and contribute to evidence-based decision-making and problem solving. They will enhance various skills that are essential for effective public health leadership.

Beyond technical competencies, the residents will be exposed to the realities of health service delivery, community engagement, and multi-sectoral collaboration. This immersive learning environment will enable them to better understand how research, policy, and practice intersect to improve health outcomes for communities across Tanzania.

At THPS, we recognize that the future of public health depends on well-trained, confident, and innovative professionals. By investing in these emerging leaders, we are contributing to stronger, more resilient health systems capable of responding to current and future public health challenges.

Together with MUHAS, THPS remains committed to nurturing talent, strengthening evidence-based practice, and advancing practical, sustainable public health solutions that make a meaningful difference in people’s lives.

We warmly welcome the MUHAS residents, we are excited to be part of their journey and look forward to a productive and impactful collaboration.
